Why did you decide to get this MAS degree?

“I initially began looking at traditional MBA programs. While researching the various master’s programs offered by local universities, I discovered this one. I was impressed that it focused on Healthcare leadership and business skill development, which is my field, and UC San Diego as an institution has a great reputation. The program looked flexible, and I felt it would fit into my already busy lifestyle, so I decided to apply.”

What did you like best about the program?

“I liked the diversity of the people in the program: different cultures, and ages even though all are in healthcare. I liked all the group work and presentations that we did which was a fantastic learning experience. The program was very hands on and experiential just like the real world.”

What skills are you applying in your job that you learned in the program?

“I learned how important transparency and openness is, along with being in a position where I am always aware of leading up. It is about being a leader, not just a manager. The stakeholders needs and the teams needs don’t necessarily match, and it is my job to communicate successfully between the two, to keep them both happy. I have learned better ways to inspire my employees, and the skills I obtained during the degree program have put me in a position which is above and beyond others whom I work with, along with putting me on the path to achieve my next career goal of becoming division director.

What would you like to tell someone who is considering the program?

“It is a great program, and the administration and faculty are very supportive of the students. I urge anyone to apply who wants to obtain management and leadership skills for the healthcare industry.”
