What are your current job responsibilities?

“I am responsible for implementing marketing plans and product education within organized customer groups, integrated delivery networks, accountable care organizations, physician groups, pharmacies and patient centered medical homes by using my professional expertise and clinical training throughout San Diego. I build trust with healthcare providers through deep clinical and product knowledge by providing comprehensive education, clinical nursing support, case management, disease management and adherence programs to assist providers and their staff to facilitate appropriate patient care.”

Why did you decide to get this MAS degree?

“It was the perfect addition to my profession. I wanted to be a leader/specialist in healthcare. I felt that UCSD’s MAS degree offered the best curriculum that was the most applicable to my career goals and also allowed me to work full time. Also, UCSD is one of the top universities in the United States!”

What did you like best about the program?

“I enjoyed learning from knowledgeable professors that took the time to make sure you understood the concept. The interaction with my classmates and professors was vital throughout the program because the constant exposure to learning new ideas and issues we are facing gave me a better understanding of healthcare and to keep an open mind.”

What skills are you applying in your job that you learned in the program?

“Project management skills, presentation and writing skills. Process improvements, strategic planning and risk management. These courses provided me with the tools I needed to transition into my career.”

Did getting this degree have a positive impact on your career while you were working on your degree, and if yes, in what way?

“Yes, I got offered positions I wouldn’t have otherwise. Top paying jobs in healthcare are looking for a Master’s degree.”

Now that you have completed your degree has it had a positive impact on your career, and if yes, in what way?

“Yes, I now work as a Respiratory Care Specialist for one of the top pharmaceutical companies in San Diego. I gained a better knowledge of the healthcare system outside of the hospital’s doors. The pharmaceutical company admired the fact I had a Masters in leadership of healthcare from a top University along with my healthcare experience.”

What would you like to tell someone who is considering the program?

“I would tell them this program will give them many opportunities to excel in their career. The MAS program is useful regardless of where you are in your career and there is plenty of guidance. It was hard work but at the end of the day, it will be something you will feel proud about.”
